Moalboal Panagsama Anchorage

9° 56.8′ N · 123° 21.9′ E · approximate

The roadstead off Panagsama Beach, Moalboal's dive-resort strip, where the reef wall drops away a few fins from shore - spectacular water, but one of the hardest places in Cebu to anchor a yacht.

Practical

Approximate position about 200 m west of Panagsama Beach as mapped in OpenStreetMap (9.9466°N 123.3662°E) - not a logged anchorage. Webb (2009): 'No anchorage under 40 m deep' at Moalboal. The wall drops off 20-30 m from shore, to 40-70 m in places (Wikivoyage). Mokisha (2017) anchored in Badian Bay instead and faced a long dinghy ride to the concrete jetty, and suggested negotiating a dive-shop mooring off Panagsama next time - do that rather than anchoring on coral. Use the Badian Bay (Tomonoy) anchorage to the south for overnight. Exposed to the west and to SW-monsoon swell; in the NE monsoon the coast is in the lee. Ashore: dozens of dive shops, bars and restaurants; ATMs at Panagsama (PNB) and in Moalboal town.

Best for

Day stop for the sardine run and Pescador on a dive-shop mooring

Season

Calm weather or NE monsoon (Nov-Apr); exposed to W/SW
