Mactan Channel Anchorage (Cebu Town Reach)

10° 19.1′ N · 123° 56.3′ E

An anchorage on the Cebu City side of the Mactan Channel, inside the commercial harbour, used by cruisers who want to be close to downtown rather than Mactan.

Practical

Arnak (2012): 10°19.07'N 123°56.28'E, 9 m mud. This is a designated ship anchorage - get permission from the harbour master (Cebu Port Authority, VHF 16); anchoring as close inshore as possible usually goes unbothered. Fairly quiet in NE winds. Do not go further NE: a large storm drain empties into the harbour and the smell is overpowering. Pilotage is compulsory for ships within Cebu harbour limits; keep clear of the very heavy ferry and cargo traffic. Older guides report repeated theft from yachts anchored in the city reach, including a RIB and outboard cut from davits (2008) - lock everything and do not leave the boat unattended overnight.

Best for

Short stays close to downtown Cebu City

Season

Better in the NE monsoon (Dec-Apr)
