Grande Island (Fort Wint)

14° 46.3′ N · 120° 13.6′ E

The island guarding the mouth of Subic Bay, once the US Army's Fort Wint with five gun batteries. The 6-inch guns of Battery Hall are still in place, and beaches, coral and ruins make it Subic's classic day trip.

Practical

OSM island and Battery Warwick ruins (14.7696°N 120.2251°E); Grande Island Resort sits on the east shore (OSM 14.7726°N 120.2289°E). Wikipedia: fourteen coast-artillery pieces in five batteries (Warwick, Hall, Woodruff, Flake, Jewell). The US Navy ran it as a base resort for decades, and SBMA restored it after the 1991 closure. Subic Sailing Club: sandy beaches, coral-rich water and historic ruins, 1.5 hours under sail or 30 minutes by speedboat. The resort's current operating status could not be confirmed; its old website no longer resolves. See Grande Island Anchorage.
