Fortune Island Anchorage (east side landing)
14° 3.2′ N · 120° 29.9′ E · approximate
A day anchorage off Fortune Island's east side, below the white Greek-style colonnade of the abandoned resort, with clear water for snorkelling. It is the natural stop on a passage between the Nasugbu coast and Lubang or Cape Santiago.
Practical
Position approximate: about 300 m east of the mapped landing on the island's south-east side (OSM ferry terminal node 14.0532N 120.4955E), off the beach where the 'Acropolis' ruins stand (OSM). Depth and holding are not documented in the sources found; anchor on sand and keep off coral. The island is about 14 km (7.6 NM) off Nasugbu (Wikipedia). This side faces the mainland and gives a lee only in westerly winds; it is open to the north-east (amihan) and the whole island is exposed in strong SW monsoon conditions, so treat it as a daytime stop in settled weather. The island has no fresh water, and its status is disputed: officials say it is a marine reserve under Proclamation 1801 (1978) while private companies hold titles (Wikipedia). Confirm access and any landing fee before going ashore. The 1600 galleon San Diego lies about 900 m north-west (Wikipedia); it is an archaeological site, so do not anchor on or disturb it. A minor light is mapped on the island (OSM).
Best for
A snorkel-and-lunch stop off the 'Acropolis'
Season
Nov-May in settled weather; exposed in SW monsoon
