Dicanituan Bay Anchorage (Discovery Island)
12° 0.1′ N · 120° 11.3′ E
A well-protected bay behind Dicanituan (Canitauan) Island at the west end of Coron harbour, where local sailboats keep permanent moorings and cruisers sit out fresh NE winds.
Practical
Arnak (2013): 12 00.089N 120 11.292E in 6 m mud behind Canitauan Island: much more protection in fresh NE/E winds and quieter than off town, but a 3/4 nm dinghy ride to town; you can land at a stone wall and walk (about 30 minutes) or take a trike. Sloepmouche (2017): 12 00.09N 120 11.27E in 7 m mud, protected all round, dinghy dock ashore near the main road, Globe and Smart both OK; a few local sailboats are moored here permanently. Arnak recommended the cruiser-friendly Discovery Resort on the island for meals and drinks (2013; check it still operates). Approach with care: Elizabeth Jane II (2014) touched a reef at 11 59.250N 120 11.420E at high tide coming into Coron harbour. Dicanituan Beach is mapped in OSM.
