Coron Town Anchorage
11° 59.7′ N · 120° 11.7′ E
The working anchorage off Coron town, the only real provisioning stop in the Calamianes, tucked behind the reef with Mt Tapyas and its giant hillside letters above. Busy, wake-washed and functional rather than pretty, but it puts you a dinghy ride from laundry, ATMs, the market and every dive shop in the group.
Practical
Hackingfamily (s/v Ocelot, 2020-2022) anchored at 11 59.68N 120 11.73E in 44 ft (13 m) mud off La Sirenetta restaurant; Noonsite (2013) gives about 9 m behind the reef. Approach from the east is marked by many buoys carrying AIS transmitters that identify themselves as left- or right-hand marks; several reefs lie on the approach, so use satellite imagery. Watch for the many floating lines on the approach (Noonsite). Dig the anchor in well: Ocelot had several days of 20+ kn here. The shoreline near La Sirenetta was reclaimed (work stopped mid-2022 over permits), so dinghy landing spots are changing; Ocelot tied up near La Sirenetta. Cruising World (2025) calls the harbour a constant wash of tour boats, ferries and cargo ships and anchored just north of town instead, accepting a wet 10-minute dinghy ride. Noonsite also notes a more sheltered anchorage NW of Discovery Island in 6-8 m, at the cost of a longer dinghy trip. Cell (2022): Globe 3G, Smart 4G. Coron is not a port of entry: clear in elsewhere (see the area file) and expect Coast Guard paperwork for each inter-island leg.
