Carabao Island Anchorage

12° 3.3′ N · 121° 57.8′ E · approximate

Boracay's quiet twin, 45 minutes north across the Hambil Channel: a hilly island municipality (San Jose) with powder beaches, cliff jumps and caves, and a fraction of Boracay's crowds.

Practical

Approx: placed about 350 m off Hambil Pier on the east coast (OpenStreetMap), not a published anchoring position; no depth or holding data were found, so sound your way in and anchor on sand clear of coral. East side (Hambil / San Jose poblacion, municipal port and pier) is the lee in the habagat (SW); west side off Lanas Beach is the lee in the amihan (NE). Uncharted bommies likely, as around Boracay. Shore support at the poblacion: San Jose Public Market, bakeries, tourism office, San Jose District Hospital. Public boats run to Tabon (Caticlan) in about 45–60 minutes, departing around 9 am (PHP 250 incl. environmental fee, 2026 blog); private charters from Bulabog or Puka. Carabao belongs to Romblon province (MIMAROPA), not Aklan, so Boracay's fees do not apply here.

Best for

Escaping Boracay's crowds and rules

Season

East side Jun–Oct; west side (Lanas) Nov–Mar
