Tenacatita Aquarium Snorkel

19° 17.0′ N · 104° 52.7′ W · approximate

'The Aquarium': coral and rock gardens off the rocks at the end of Playa Tenacatita, alive with a varied population of tropical fish — the best easy snorkel in the bay.

Practical

Position approximate: the rocky point at the south end of Playa Tenacatita (the outer beach) near El Rebalsito, from the OpenStreetMap coastline; cruiser accounts locate it at the west end of the beach at 'Ravelcito'. Usually reached on foot from the lagoon at the end of the jungle river trip, or by road. Calm-day snorkel only; algae blooms and red tide wreck the visibility some winters. Scuba divers report a pinnacle about 100 ft across, roughly 100 yards off a rocky shore in the bay, with a maximum depth near 60 ft — bring your own compressor, as there is no tank fill nearby.
