Punta Chivato Anchorage
27° 3.8′ N · 111° 57.6′ W · approximate
A long-time favourite of northbound boats: a wide sandy bight tucked under the rocky Punta Chivato headland, with the derelict stone-arched Posada de las Flores hotel on the point and a vacation-home community ashore.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate: placed in the water south of the beach-house shoreline, in the corner under the old hotel, derived from the OpenStreetMap positions of Hotelito Chivato and the Punta Chivato hamlet; sound in. Anchor in the corner on good sand — excellent holding, wave protection from the north and some wind protection; it is open to the south. Crews have ridden out five days of strong northerlies here, but others found it uncomfortable and moved on. If the wind goes south, move round to Ensenada El Muerto. Land the dinghy on the beach (low-tide beach near the point). Local pangas sell fish and lobster. Cell signal reported. Kite-boarders use the windy days. Private airstrip ashore.
Best for
Norther shelter on the run to Santa Rosalía or the crossing to San Carlos
Season
Oct–May; open to south
