Punta Abreojos Anchorage

26° 42.7′ N · 113° 33.4′ W · approximate

'Abreojos' means 'open your eyes': a low, broad point fringed by eight hazards within the 10-fathom curve, with two roomy coves on its east side that make the second of three reliable rest stops between Turtle Bay and Mag Bay - and the jumping-off point for the gray whales of Laguna San Ignacio.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: The Log advises approaching from about 5 nm east and anchoring in either of the two coves within 3 nm north-east of the point (OSM point 26.705 N 113.577 W; village on the point); the pin is east of the village - feel your way in. Roads Less Traveled (2010) found rocks, reefs and crab pots everywhere and a continually rolly night. Watch for whales. For Laguna San Ignacio, hail 'Whale Park Guide' on VHF 16 and 22. Small village with an airstrip; no published fuel or provisioning in our sources.
