Isla Asunción Sea Lion Colony
27° 6.2′ N · 114° 17.5′ W
The small lighted island off Punta Asunción holds a sea lion colony of more than 6,000 animals, nesting seabirds and seals - local guides take pangas and kayaks out, and snorkelers swim with the sea lions.
Practical
Position from GeoNames ('Isla la Asunción'). Tours arranged through bahiaasuncion.com; gray whales pass January to May. The Log notes a small overnight anchorage on the island's east side in moderate NW wind, but keep clear of the lighted island when approaching the village anchorage. Ask locally about any protected-area rules before landing.
