Bahía Asunción Anchorage

27° 8.3′ N · 114° 17.4′ W · approximate

A prosperous fishing village spread along the east side of Punta Asunción, with Pemex fuel by road, better cell coverage than Turtle Bay and a former-cruiser family who look after visiting boats - the best of the three rest stops between Turtle Bay and Mag Bay.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: The Log says anchor off the village beach about 1 nm north-north-east of the lighted point; the pin is 1 nm NNE of Punta Asunción (OSM 27.124 N 114.296 W). Avoid the lighted island (Isla Asunción) to the south. A good dinghy landing beach is about 300 yards north of the old cannery pier remnants; pangas anchor off the launch ramps at the south end of town. Fuel, ice, water and food delivered at anchor: hail Campo Sirena on VHF 16, or contact Shari or Sirena Bondy (+52 615 155 7197, bahiaasuncion.com) for fuel jugs, provisioning, laundry, internet, showers and parts. Town has a Pemex station (diesel and gas), two fishing cooperatives, grocery stores, restaurants, a hospital and good drinking water. Shelter from prevailing NW; Isla Asunción's east side offers a smaller overnight lee in moderate NW winds.
