Puerto Marqués Anchorage

16° 48.1′ N · 99° 50.8′ W

A small, cliff-ringed bay just east of Acapulco Bay, with villas on the slopes, a lively palapa beach and free anchoring: the cruisers' alternative to staying in the city.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap centroid of the Bahía de Puerto Marqués. About 5-6 nm from the Acapulco Bay moorings. Cruising guides call it open to ocean swell, but Roads Less Traveled had five calm nights in 2012, and S/V Some Tuesday anchored here in Feb 2026. The 'Barrido Marino' sweeper boats collect household trash and used engine oil from boats free of charge (2012). Floating reed beds drift through after rains. Two small vessels were found here after Hurricane Otis, so debris is possible on the bottom: use a trip line. Watch for tour boats and swimmers off the beach.

Best for

Anchoring near Acapulco away from city noise

Season

Nov-May; open to S swell
