Puerto de Abrigo Marina (Banco Playa, Cozumel)

20° 31.7′ N · 86° 56.4′ W · approximate

Cozumel's state-run harbour of refuge in the Banco Playa district north of San Miguel - a packed basin of local dive, fishing and charter boats that is the island's only true shelter.

Practical

Coordinate is the breakwater light of Puerto de Abrigo as mapped in OpenStreetMap (approximate; the earlier rough placement fell ashore). Noonsite places Puerto de Abrigo at the north end of the San Miguel roadstead, north of the ferry dock; a 'Mirador Puerto de Abrigo' lookout is mapped at 20.52718, -86.94088. Confirm the entrance on a current chart. Run by APIQROO (Administración Portuaria Integral de Quintana Roo). In September 2025 Riviera Maya News reported it shelters 148 vessels and that demand exceeds the space available; a dry-stack marina for 40-50 boats near the crane is planned (construction targeted for 2026, no budget assigned yet). Expect few or no transient berths - arrange ahead, in Spanish if possible (Noonsite). Noonsite notes the yacht harbours can be difficult to enter in bad weather but the buoys are well maintained. Deep-sea fishing charters work out of here (Wikivoyage).
