Playa Santispac Anchorage

26° 45.8′ N · 111° 53.1′ W

The first proper anchorage inside Bahía Concepción and its best northerly shelter — a big, island-studded bay ringed by RV palapas, two beach restaurants and hot springs, with room for a few dozen boats.

Practical

Anchor anywhere in 25-35 ft over sand; dark patches are grass/weed and do not stop a good set. Good holding, excellent protection from every direction but south — the go-to spot to sit out a multi-day norther. Approach clear from the north around Punta Piedrita (north of Isla Pitahaya); if passing south of Pitahaya mark and avoid Santispac Reef (26°45.05'N 111°52.95'W), which some chart vendors have dropped. Land the dinghy anywhere on the beach. Highway 1 noise is constant. Easiest place in the bay to hitch or arrange a ride into Mulegé (about 20 minutes by road) for provisions; Mulegé Brewing Co. acts as an informal ride hub. Expat RVers gather fall through spring. A 2024 cruiser report notes oppressive summer heat, crowding and poor snorkel visibility.

Best for

Riding out northers with restaurants and a ride to town

Season
