Playa Principal Dinghy Landing (Puerto Escondido)
15° 51.6′ N · 97° 3.8′ W
The town beach where Puerto Escondido's fishing fleet runs ashore each morning with marlin and snapper, and the only practical place to land a dinghy: it sits inside the bay, sheltered from the big Zicatela surf.
Practical
Position is the OpenStreetMap outline of Playa Principal (way 192166815). Wikipedia: fishing boats and water taxis moor close to shore with low to moderate surf; Wikivoyage rates it good for swimming and boogie boarding. Land through the small shore break among the pangas, ideally mid-morning after the fleet is in, and ask a fisherman to keep an eye on the dinghy. The Adoquín (pedestrian Av. Pérez Gasga) with shops, bars and restaurants runs behind the beach. Wikivoyage advises avoiding Playa Principal and Playa Bachoco from dusk to dawn, so land and leave in daylight. Never try to land on Playa Zicatela, a world-class heavy beach break.
