Playa La Ropa (Zihuatanejo)

17° 37.8′ N · 101° 32.9′ W

The bay's longest, widest beach, on the east shore, lined with palapa restaurants, parasail operators and resort villas; named, so the story goes, for clothing washed ashore from a wreck.

Practical

Position from OpenStreetMap. From Playa Principal, the walkway leads along the shore to Playa La Madera and then over a steep hill to La Ropa, or land by dinghy in calm conditions. Parasailers tow over the anchorage here; keep a lookout. Ristorante Il Mare, on the cliffs just north of La Ropa, has a railing-side view over the whole anchorage and was S/V Some Tuesday's favorite 'fancy' dinner (Feb 2026).

Best for

Beach days and sunset dinners above the bay
