Papanoa (Puerto Vicente Guerrero) Anchorage

17° 16.3′ N · 101° 3.5′ W · approximate

A small fishing and shrimping harbor behind a short breakwater about 35 nm southeast of Zihuatanejo: the only real overnight shelter on the long run to Acapulco, with cantinas on the beach and pelicans and frigatebirds riding the shrimpers' booms.

Practical

Approximate: set just offshore of the OSM position for Puerto Vicente Guerrero (17.2731, -101.0556); use a current chart. The Mexican Navy publishes a large-scale harbor chart, SEMAR SM522.1 'Puerto Vicente Guerrero, Gro.' (1:4,000). Cruiser reviews (noforeignland) call it well protected and calm for an overnight stop, with a rocky bottom and dining reachable by dinghy. Roads Less Traveled used the breakwater's shelter overnight in 2012 and 2013 and noted 'not much there' besides a palapa bar that stayed loud into the small hours. Leave after the fishing fleet goes out at dawn. Acapulco is another 75 nm, so plan a pre-dawn start. Depths not recorded in sources: sound your way in.
