25° 58.2′ N · 111° 15.0′ W · approximate
From December to March blue whales—the largest animal ever to live—concentrate in the channel between Loreto and Isla Carmen and the deep water south of town, along with humpback, fin, Bryde's and sperm whales.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate: mid-channel between Loreto and Isla Carmen. Best months February-March (Loreto.com); CONANP recorded 20 individual blue whales in the park in 2019. Loreto.com's writer saw three blue whales on one four-hour panga tour with a captain from the Pescadores de Ensenada Blanca cooperative. Keep a safe distance from all marine mammals (Loreto.com park guidelines); slow down when spouts are around. Sailing Totem saw a Bryde's whale breach near Loreto.
