Swell Season (Marie-Galante)
15° 57.4′ N · 61° 19.3′ W · approximate
Marie-Galante's west-coast anchorages are open roadsteads: comfortable in the normal easterly trade, but a late-afternoon swell or a winter northerly ground swell sends boats back to the shelter of Saint-Louis or away altogether.
Practical
Position approx: Saint-Louis anchorage. A charter blog advises falling back to Saint-Louis if swell builds in the late afternoon; a cruising couple abandoned an attempt to enter Saint-François (Grande-Terre) from Marie-Galante in 25 knots with breaking waves across the inlet. The east and south coasts are Atlantic-facing behind a barrier reef - no yacht anchorages. See the area file for northerly ground-swell season (roughly Nov-Apr).
