Every 16 November Statia celebrates the 1776 'First Salute' fired from Fort Oranje to the American brig Andrew Doria - with dawn events at the fort, parades, delegations, food booths and fireworks over the bay. 2026 marks the 250th anniversary.

Expect US and Dutch delegations and possibly naval visitors in the bay; anchor early and leave room. Public holiday: offices closed.
