The cliff-top Dutch fort (1636) whose cannon returned the salute of the American brig Andrew Doria on 16 November 1776 - the 'First Salute' to the flag of the newly independent United States, commemorated by a plaque from Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Practical
Coordinates from Wikipedia. Overlooks the anchorage; free to wander the ramparts. Restored after a 1990 fire, the cliff beneath was stabilised 2019-2020. The Statia Tourism Development Foundation office is inside the fort. Ocean View Terrace restaurant is next door.
