Saint-Jean Bay

17° 54.3′ N · 62° 50.2′ W

The island's social beach, split by the Eden Rock promontory, where planes skim the sand on landing at Gustaf III airport and the beach clubs (Nikki Beach, Eden Rock) set the scene.

Practical

OpenStreetMap beach position. The bay lies under the airport approach: the reserve leaflet marks a zone off Saint-Jean forbidden to any vessel with more than 10 m air draft, so masted yachts cannot anchor here; a 2012 cruiser report also describes the airstrip-bay anchorage as restricted and on the windward side. Sail Magazine (2015) says careful navigation lets shallow boats anchor off the beach - realistically a dinghy or small-multihull stop only. Rocky outcrops at the south-east end are good for snorkelling. Super U supermarket, pharmacies and car rental are next to the airport.
