Roseau Mooring Field (Castle Comfort to Loubiere)

15° 17.1′ N · 61° 22.6′ W

A string of private moorings along the steep coast south of the capital - off the dive shops and hotels of Castle Comfort and Loubiere - where the seabed drops away too fast for comfortable anchoring. Base for Roseau, the Roseau Valley, Champagne Reef and whale watching.

Practical

Position: Noonsite's Roseau anchorage (15 deg 17'05"N, 61 deg 22'38"W). Noonsite (docking, July 2023): anchoring is permitted despite what mooring operators say, but very difficult - it gets deep fast and anchors drag when tide and current change at night; the main yacht anchorage is between Green Flash Bar and Sea World, flatter toward the Dominica Marine Center; fish traps in the bay. Moorings: north field run by Markus/Marcus (most moorings, has a tender; VHF 16), south by Seacat (Mr Bean) on VHF 16; also off the Dominica Marine Center, Fort Young Hotel, Dive Dominica and the Ocean Oasis Hotel (noforeignland: showers, secure dinghy dock). Fees: standard US$15/EUR15 per night (Noonsite 2023); noforeignland reports around US$20 with Marcus - verify locally. Check every mooring; some become untenable in northerly swell. Dinghy: Noonsite says the Newtown Fisheries dock is the only recommended landing (crowded with fishing-boat lines); otherwise land on the stony beach and pay someone to watch the dinghy. Security patrols by the Dominica Marine Association/DMC and Marcus; restaurant moorings are not secure - lock everything.
