River Taw Wreck

17° 17.3′ N · 62° 44.1′ W · approximate

A 144 ft inter-island freighter that sank off Basseterre in 1981 and was broken in two by Hurricane Hugo in 1989 - full of holes and passages, with octopus, stingrays, turtles and lobsters.

Practical

Position is a rough area marker only (west of Basseterre harbour, near Fort Thomas/Bluff Point), derived from Pro Divers ('close to Fort Tyson') and Dive Nevis ('off the lee shore of St Kitts near Basseterre harbour'); do not use it to find the wreck - dive with an operator who moors on it. Depth about 40 ft on a flat sandy bottom. Pro Divers St Kitts (PADI 5-Star, a 5-minute walk from the cruise terminal; WhatsApp +1 869 662 3483) dives Mon-Sat mornings; Dive Nevis (Oualie Beach) also runs a shark-and-wreck trip to St Kitts.
