Porte d'Enfer & Pointe de la Grande Vigie

16° 30.9′ N · 61° 27.9′ W

The northern tip of Grande-Terre: the high limestone cliffs of the Pointe de la Grande Vigie and, nearby, the narrow sea-cut lagoon of the Porte d'Enfer - the wild Atlantic side of Guadeloupe that sailors only see from offshore.

Practical

Position: Pointe de la Grande Vigie from Wikipedia. Reach by car from Port-Louis or Pointe-a-Pitre; or walk stage 2 of the North Grande-Terre loop from Anse Laborde to the Porte d'Enfer via the Grande Vigie (5 h, 12.8 km; national park Geotrek trek 5963). Stay back from the cliff edges (collapse risk). The trail notes that a lot of sargassum collects in the Porte d'Enfer lagoon.
