16° 45.0′ N · 62° 12.4′ W · approximate
Montserrat's national bird, a black-and-gold oriole found nowhere else on earth and now confined to the Centre Hills and South Soufriere Hills forests.
Practical
Marker is the Centre Hills coordinate from Wikipedia, not a specific sighting spot. IUCN Vulnerable; about 460 mature individuals, two populations in roughly 48 sq km of forest, mostly 250 to 900 m elevation; breeds late March to September and nests under heliconia leaves. Best chance: a guided walk on the Oriole Walkway. Other Centre Hills specialities: forest thrush, brown trembler, bridled quail-dove, purple-throated carib, and the critically endangered mountain chicken frog and galliwasp lizard.
