16° 46.0′ N · 62° 12.6′ W
Montserrat's most popular trail climbs through Centre Hills rainforest to Lawyer's Mountain, where a spur to a 1,287 ft clearing gives views north and south - and where a guide very likely finds you the national bird.
Practical
Coordinate is the Lawyer's Mountain viewpoint on the walkway (OpenStreetMap). Oriole Walkway: about 1.3 miles, 2 hours one-way; gentle then steep; arrange transport at the far end. The Centre Hills hold 8 of the 9 major trails (Big River, Blackwood Allen, Dry Waterfall, Duberry-Cassava, Hope Ridge, Katy Hill system, The Cot, Underwood). A guide is advised: Montserrat National Trust +1 664 491 3086, Scriber's Adventures +1 664 492 2943, Island Escape Hikes +1 664 496 0061. Trails are muddy after rain; boots and long trousers; carry half a litre of water per person per hour. Don't hike alone; many trails cross private land.
