Grand Cul-de-Sac Lagoon (St Barth)

17° 54.4′ N · 62° 48.1′ W

A reef-sheltered, knee-to-waist-deep lagoon on the north-east coast and the reserve's sixth zone - the island's watersports centre and a calm place to see turtles over the seagrass.

Practical

OpenStreetMap lagoon position. Not a yacht anchorage: the reserve leaflet bans anchoring in the lagoon, sets a 3-knot limit in the marked access channel (foils may only cross via the channel; swimming in the channel not recommended), forbids kitesurfing within the 50 m beach strip, keeps the coral-colony area snorkel-only, and bans shark and ray capture; private moorings are under contract. Fishing needs a licence, barbless hooks, no bait, catch-and-release. Visit by car or a calm-day dinghy trip. Watersports (kayak, paddleboard, kite and windsurf rentals) operate from the beach; restaurants include Ti Corail, Amis and Le Sereno Al Mare.

Best for

Kitesurfing, paddleboarding and turtles in calm water
