Double Wreck (Statia)

17° 29.0′ N · 62° 59.5′ W · approximate

An 18th-century archaeological site just off Lower Town: ballast stones and old anchors from merchant ships that sank in the late 1700s, now crawling with stingrays, seahorses, frogfish and blennies.

Practical

Approximate: estimated from the site's plotted position on the 2016 Statia Tourism dive map relative to Gallows Bay, Lower Town and the reserve markers (no published GPS position). About 18-20 m (60-67 ft); a 2-minute boat ride from the dive centres; beginner level (Golden Rock). Nearby: Triple Wreck in front of Scubaqua (19 m), with bottles, anchors and a cannon. Artefacts are protected - look, don't take.
