Bas-du-Fort Anchorage
16° 13.1′ N · 61° 32.3′ W · approximate
The open water off the Bas-du-Fort marina entrance, between the marina and Ilet a Cochons, has long been used by yachts waiting for a berth - but much of it is now a no-anchoring zone and the marina's moorings north of Ilet a Cochons are the legal alternative.
Practical
Coordinate: OpenStreetMap anchorage seamark (node 5520239296), approx. Noonsite (updated Dec 2022): anchoring is NOT permitted inside the area bounded by 16 13' 26.11"N 61 32' 44.71"W, 16 13' 32.43"N 61 32' 14.23"W, 16 12' 55.56"N 61 32' 25.71"W and 16 13' 00.09"N 61 32' 01.41"W - this OSM point lies inside that box, so do not anchor here without checking current rules with the marina (VHF 9). Use the marina moorings north of Ilet a Cochons (see Ilet a Cochons Moorings). Pointe-a-Pitre's inner harbour and the Riviere Salee mangroves are the traditional hurricane holes. Commercial and cruise-ship traffic uses the main channel to Pointe-a-Pitre.
