Wailau Valley Anchorage

21° 10.0′ N · 156° 49.9′ W · approximate

An open summer roadstead off the boulder-and-sand beach of Wailau, the largest of the North Shore valleys, an ancient taro-growing ahupuaa now almost uninhabited and reachable only by sea, helicopter or a near-impassable trail.

Practical

Coordinate is approx, a point roughly 0.2 nm off the GNIS-mapped Wailau Beach (21.1639, -156.8310). No published soundings or holding data were found; treat it as an open-roadstead day or overnight stop to be taken only in settled summer conditions with a careful look at the depth sounder. Wikipedia notes boat access is possible only in summer; local Molokai families sometimes camp at the beach in summer. Landing is through surf on a rocky beach. No services of any kind, and rescue is difficult (to-hawaii.com). Kahiwa and Papalaua falls are a short distance east.
