Punaluu Harbor Anchorage (small craft)

19° 8.1′ N · 155° 30.2′ W · approximate

A small bight at the head of Punaluu's black-sand beach, an old sugar landing where small boats can tuck in close to the east shore in settled trades.

Practical

Coordinate approximate (placed just off the east side of the beach park; plot on a chart). Coast Pilot: small boats find some protection in 6 to 11 ft close to the east shore; the southwest part of the bight is foul. A rock awash at half tide lies 260 yards south-southeast of the old landing, another with 8 ft over it 40 yards farther out; enter between these rocks and the shore to the north. A rock with 3 ft over it is 0.2 mile east of the entrance and 80 yards offshore. Trades tend to haul offshore here, but in rough weather breakers extend right across the entrance and passage is impossible. A surfaced ramp is just north of the ruined landing. Turtles on the beach - land well away from them.
