Billed as the southernmost town in the United States - a small Kau plantation town with a few shops and eateries under monkeypod trees, the last stop before South Point.
Practical
Coordinate from Wikipedia. Very limited supplies (to-hawaii) - provision in Hilo or Kona. Hurricane Lala's flash floods (August 2026) swept away homes and two cemeteries here and in Waiohinu; Hurricane Nolo flooded the same communities in September 2026. Expect repair work and road closures. Pahala, 3 miles inland from Punaluu, is the largest Kau town, with a gas station, small shopping center, post office and hospital (to-hawaii).
