Pukoo Harbor Anchorage

21° 4.0′ N · 156° 47.9′ W

A pocket in the reef on the East End, about 800 by 250 yards, with a three-fingered private boat lagoon behind a seawall; smooth in trades, with fishponds, heiau and mountain valleys all around.

Practical

Coast Pilot 10: entrance through a break in the reef from the southeast, marked only by breakers on either side and no navigation aids; start midway between the breakers and steer for the opening in the lagoon seawall. 12 ft can be carried across to the lagoon channel; the lagoon channel carries 6 ft and 4 ft inside. Numerous coral heads and submerged rocks line both sides; local knowledge advised, and during konas breakers close the passage. The outer harbor is smooth in trades, though the wind blows through with full force. Sea Seek (2015): depth about 3 to 6 m, deepest on the eastern side; the first anchorage is sand but rolly, the two inner spots very calm (set in sand patches between rocks); dinghy landing near the palms at the east end of the public beach; the inner lagoon is private. No facilities; Manae Goods and Grindz on the highway has snacks and basics.
