Puako Petroglyphs

19° 57.2′ N · 155° 51.3′ W

The Puako Petroglyph Archaeological Preserve holds more than 3,000 rock carvings, the largest collection in the state, reached by a short trail through kiawe forest from Holoholokai Beach Park at Mauna Lani.

Practical

Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap position of the preserve. The trail starts at Holoholokai Beach Park (19.95535, -155.85998). Stay on the trail and never step on or rub the carvings. Go early or late in the day; it is hot and exposed. A shore excursion rather than a boat stop; there is no anchorage off the preserve.
