Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor

21° 57.2′ N · 159° 21.4′ W · approximate

Kauai's main small-boat harbor, behind the breakwater on the southwest side of Nawiliwili Harbor below Lihue - the island's best all-weather shelter and the home of the DOBOR Kauai District Office.

Practical

DOBOR: 2494 Niumalu Road, Lihue; harbor phone (808) 241-3110; 82 berths, 5 multihull moorings, 2-lane launch ramp, landing pier, loading dock, fish hoist, washdown, pump-out station, restrooms. Berths are first come, first served and visiting space is scarce - call ahead (see DOBOR Kauai District Office). The harbor and district offices close at 12:00 pm on Tuesdays (effective March 19, 2024, until further notice). Coast Pilot: two jetties with lights on their outer ends protect the basin; private lights mark the inner channel; southeast winds produce some surge but the harbor is otherwise secure; Nawiliwili and Port Allen are the only places on Kauai that give shelter in almost all weather. There is NO fuel dock: DOBOR's facility list (checked October 2026) names a pump-out but no fuel, and OpenStreetMap shows no marine fuel station on Kauai; Coast Pilot says fuel and water are delivered by tank truck to the commercial piers - arrange through the harbor office, or carry jerry cans from a road gas station in Lihue; minor repairs only. NOAA tide station 1611400 (Nawiliwili). Coordinate approximated on the southwest side of the harbor next to the NOAA station position; confirm on your chart or plotter.
