Makua Bay Anchorage (day stop)
21° 31.9′ N · 158° 14.0′ W · approximate
An open roadstead off the sand beach at Makua, beneath the steep Waianae ridges, usable as a calm-day lunch or dolphin-watching stop on the way to Kaena Point.
Practical
Approx position: about 0.2 mile off Makua Beach (OpenStreetMap beach), matching Coast Pilot 10's description of the bight between Kepuhi Point and Kaena Point: midway along it a sand beach fronts a small valley, small boats can land on the beach when the sea is smooth and can anchor in 4-6 fathoms about 0.2 mile offshore. No shelter from north-west swell; Coast Pilot says Pokai Bay is the only west-coast anchorage sheltered in all winds. The 72-hour rule applies.
Best for
A calm-day stop off the remote Makua coast
