Kapoho and the 2018 Lava Flow
19° 30.2′ N · 154° 50.8′ W
The former Puna community buried twice by Kilauea: in 1960 a flow destroyed nearly 100 homes, and in 2018 lava filled Kapoho Bay, the famous warm tide pools, Champagne Ponds and Green Lake, adding about 520 acres of new land.
Practical
Coordinate is Wikipedia's for Kapoho. Timeline per Wikipedia: residents urged to evacuate May 30, 2018; Green Lake (19.50232, -154.83932) destroyed June 2; lava reached Kapoho Bay June 4, burying Vacationland and Kapoho Beach Lots. Ahalanui Park's volcanically heated pool and the Kapoho Tide Pools were destroyed by the June 5, 2018 flow (to-hawaii). From the sea: the 2018 delta has changed the coastline from older charts - stand well off and use current charts.
