Cape Kumukahi Lighthouse
19° 31.0′ N · 154° 48.6′ W
The light on the easternmost point of the Big Island, a jagged mass of bare black lava where Kilauea's East Rift Zone runs into the sea - famous because the 1960 Kapoho lava flow parted around the lighthouse and spared it.
Practical
Position from the Coast Pilot (19-30-59N 154-48-39W): a 115-ft white pyramidal skeleton tower. The cape is clearly defined from all sides; sharp pinnacles mark the end of the point. Wikipedia's Kapoho article records that the Cape Kumukahi Light survived the 1960 flow. Note: the light does not appear among the Big Island aids in the 2025 USCG Light List extract - do not rely on it as a lit aid without checking current Local Notices to Mariners.
