Electric Beach (Kahe Point)

21° 21.4′ N · 158° 7.8′ W · approximate

The beach park in front of the Kahe power plant, popularly called Electric Beach, where the plant's cooling-water outfall lies a short swim offshore.

Practical

Approx position from OpenStreetMap (Hawaiian Electric Beach Park). Coast Pilot 10: Kahe Point, 3.5 miles north of Kalaeloa, has a large power plant whose tallest stack is 485 ft with a strobe on top; two short boulder groins protect the cooling-water intake and the outfall is about 250 yards offshore with 9 ft of water over it. Shore entry; currents and surge vary with swell, so go in calm conditions with a buddy and never swim near the intake groins. Keep 50 yards from spinner dolphins (federal rule).
