Black Rock (Puu Kekaa)
20° 55.5′ N · 156° 41.8′ W · approximate
The dark lava headland at the north end of Kaanapali Beach, Maui's westernmost point, with turtles cruising the rock face and clear water on calm days.
Practical
Coordinate is approx: offset about 150 m into the water southwest of Puu Kekaa (OSM summit 20.92732, -156.69581). The protected south side is easier and busier; the horseshoe cove on the ocean side has better views and turtles. Currents and surge can be strong around the tip; swim it only when calm. No lifeguards; avoid touching coral. Cliff jumpers and boat traffic share the water (to-hawaii.com). Kekaa Point (locally Black Point) at 20 55.8'N, 156 42.0'W is 85 ft high with no offshore dangers; a northward current is reported off the point and a 0.5 kt north-south tidal current 0.5 mile off (Coast Pilot). Gear rental at Whalers Village (Wikivoyage).
