Kaanapali Roadstead Moorings

20° 55.2′ N · 156° 41.9′ W · approximate

The open roadstead off Kaanapali's resort beach, about four miles north of Lahaina, where DOBOR keeps a mooring area for private sailing vessels in the calm lee of the West Maui Mountains.

Practical

Coordinate is approx: placed about 0.25 nm off the middle of Kaanapali Beach. DOBOR describes Kaanapali as primarily submerged land serving the resort, with a mooring area for private sailing vessels and undesignated offshore moorings; contact DOBOR Maui District (808) 243-5824 about permits. Off Hanakaoo Point, at the south end, the 10-fathom curve is about 500 yards out and the bottom shoals gradually to the sandy beach (Coast Pilot). Light airs or calm are generally found between Hekili and Kekaa Points. No harbor or dock: landing is on the open beach, where the bottom drops quickly and rips run when surf is up. Open to kona weather and south/west swell. Do not anchor within 100 yards of the Marriott Reef day-use moorings.

Best for

Lee mooring off the resort beach, close to Whalers Village

Season
