Vlychos Bay (Hydra)

37° 20.7′ N · 23° 26.7′ E · approximate

A hamlet of white cottages and two or three tavernas 2 km west of Hydra town, with the island's best-known pebble beach and sunsets over the Peloponnese.

Practical

Coordinate approx: placed ~250 m offshore (north) of the Vlychos hamlet node in OSM — check depth on your chart before dropping. Recommended (with Mandraki) as the overflow anchorage when Hydra harbour is full; anchor off the hamlet and go ashore by dinghy, or take a water taxi into town. The bay faces north across the Hydra strait, so it is exposed to northerlies and to the wash of water taxis running to and from the harbour. Ashore: organised pebble beach with sunbeds (Wikivoyage noted chair rental around €3 — verify locally), tavernas with fresh fish, the chapels of St Charalambos and St Paraskevi on the rocks, and Plakes beach just beyond. The 45-minute coastal walk to town via Kamini is lovely.

Best for

Quieter alternative to the town quay, beach and taverna dinner

Season

Summer settled weather; exposed in northerlies
