Kamini Harbour (Hydra)

37° 20.9′ N · 23° 27.4′ E

A tiny fishing-boat harbour a 15-minute walk west of Hydra town, with a pebble beach, a castle-turned-bar and some of the island's favourite fish tavernas.

Practical

Sailingissues anchorage marker. The harbour itself is shallow and only for small fishing boats; in southerlies drop anchor in 6–8 m outside the west pier and take a line to it. Ferry wash running into Hydra is very annoying here. Ashore: Kodylenia's taverna in an old fisherman's house over the harbour, Castello in an 18th-century fort over the beach, and Pirofani a few minutes inland. On Good Friday the Epitaphios procession ends here and the bier is carried into the sea to bless the waters.

Best for

Lunch stop or southerly-wind anchorage with a taverna ashore

Season

Usable in southerlies; ferry wash always
