Sunken City of Epidavros

37° 37.5′ N · 23° 9.5′ E

Walls and foundations of part of ancient Epidaurus lie in shallow water off Gliati beach, south of the harbour peninsula; an easy, atmospheric snorkel from the beach or the dinghy.

Practical

OpenStreetMap maps the sunken city ruins at 37.6258N 23.15777E with a monument marker at 37.6262N 23.15886E, next to Gliati beach (37.62526N 23.15638E). Kavas: underwater ancient ruins lie south of the harbour close to the coast, and locals can point out the spots; Panagitsa beach, with its white chapel, and a safe bay to anchor in are also south of the harbour. Snorkel only; do not touch or remove anything, as antiquities are protected by Greek law. Shallow, so go by dinghy or swim from the beach rather than anchoring over the ruins.
