Poros Town Quay & Channel (Poros)

37° 30.0′ N · 23° 27.1′ E

The long municipal quay of Poros town, wrapped around the north and south sides of the little volcanic peninsula of Sphaeria, with the clock tower above and Galatas a few hundred metres across the channel. It is the busiest and best-serviced yacht stop between Aegina and Hydra, a stern-to berth with tavernas, bakeries and ferries all within a few steps.

Practical

Run by the Poros Municipal Port Organization (Port Fund): office at Kostelenou 22, tel +30 22980 29120, info@portofporos.gr, VHF 9; port services 9am-9pm April-October. Five associated mooring linemen are listed on the official 'where to moor' page (e.g. Roussos Lakis +30 697 269 1030, Staikos Spyros +30 697 216 9963). Official fee table (stated per metre per day, incl. 24% VAT, under Joint Ministerial Decision 3113.11/48682/21): private yachts 7.01-10 m EUR 0.64 stern-to / EUR 1.28 side-on; 10.01-15 m EUR 0.72 / EUR 1.46; over 15 m EUR 0.85 / EUR 1.70; professional (charter) yachts over 7 m EUR 0.25 / EUR 0.50; catamarans pay 100% extra; side-on is 25% extra on the stern-to rate. Water EUR 1.00 per 100 L, power EUR 1.50 per kWh, from prepaid cards of EUR 7-50; pillars are worked only by Port Fund staff. The page states no year, so verify locally. Noonsite lists the north-quay position as 37°30.05'N 023°27.09'E. Berthing: stern-to on your own anchor on the north quays and the 'new' yacht pontoon with blue street lanterns; mostly sand with a few rocks, good holding (SailingIssues). An old mooring chain lies parallel to the north quay about 30 m off in about 8 m of water and fouls anchors most mornings (Noonsite user report, Sept 2019), so lay at least 50 m of chain and motor up to your anchor before weighing. Ferry and fast-cat wash runs day and night: keep well off the quay and raise the passerelle. Northern gales raise waves over half a metre on the north quays; the Eagleray text on the Port Fund site says strong NW-SW winds, especially in spring and autumn, can make a stay dangerous. A 60-80 kn thunderstorm squall in October 2016 tore boats off the pontoon (Noonsite). Showers are offered by several waterfront bars (Noonsite). Diesel comes by mini-tanker, see Poros Fuel.
