Paralio Astros Harbour
37° 24.9′ N · 22° 46.0′ E
A fishing-and-holiday harbour under a castle-topped hill on the west shore of the gulf, with a long sandy beach curving away south and cafés around the quay.
Practical
Coordinate is the mapped harbour (OSM 'Λιμάνι Άστρους'); Sea-Seek waypoint 37°24.87'N 22°45.99'E. Moor stern- or bows-to the SE mole (Sailing Issues) — Sea-Seek says either mole; the S mole is fringed by underwater rubble in places, so keep your rudder off. Holding is poor in places. Good shelter from the prevailing S winds (Sea-Seek), but at night strong katabatic NW–W gusts fall off the mountains, usually dying after 3–4 hours — set the anchor well and have fenders out. Sailing Issues reports the harbour is often full and boats have been turned away, partly because of new local docks in the shallow basin that are not on charts. Ashore: Manthos Market, bakeries (La Frantzoli, Fournos), greengrocer, fish shop, ATMs, police; tavernas on the quay (To Mouragio, Batis, Ippokeros). KTEL Arkadia bus agency in the village.
Best for
Overnight on the west shore with a castle walk
Season
May–Oct; expect night katabatic gusts
