Nidri Waterfalls (Dimosari Gorge)

38° 43.6′ N · 20° 41.1′ E

A shady gorge of plane trees west of Nidri ending at a 12 m waterfall with a cold swimming pool at its foot.

Practical

About an hour's walk from Nidri, well signposted from the main street; little shade on the road, so go early (before about 9:30am) and carry water (allovergreece). Small car park about 500 m from the falls, then a paved path with wooden bridges, handrails and many steps; slippery in places, not suitable for limited mobility; wear proper shoes. A small taverna sits at the foot of the falls. Flow is strongest from autumn to spring and after rain; in high summer it can be a trickle. my-sea notes the last part runs up the riverbed. Sailingissues.com puts it at 3.5 km and mentions seeing big snakes.

Best for

Cool morning walk from Nidri

Season

Best Oct-May; reduced flow in midsummer
