Votsi Harbour (Alonissos)

39° 8.9′ N · 23° 52.5′ E

A fishing port in a natural harbour enclosed by ochre cliffs just north-east of Patitiri, given all-round shelter by a new west breakwater in 2016.

Practical

Approach from the south: a rock covers and uncovers near the entrance and there is a shoal just south of the headland. The EU-funded quay (2016) has berths for about 30 visitors, but local boats usually fill most. When full (room for 15+ more): (1) stern-to with lines to the rocks under the highest cliff — anchor in 8 m, settle in 4–5 m, rings only along the southern half of the cliff; or (2) lines to the old southern breakwater by the trees, anchoring in 10–13 m (good holding and protection). Swinging is not advised because of crossed chains. Old anchors litter the south side; sea urchins — wear water shoes. Supermarket and minimarkets nearby; tavernas Dendrolimano and Panoulis; taxi to Chora about €12 (Sailing Issues). Good swimming and snorkelling with caves.
